In Power's season 4 episode 5, Tommy reveals a secret he's been carrying for a pretty long time - that he killed Holly, and that she was planning to kill Ghost. Long time viewers remember that moment when he had to choose between his best friend and his girl. Tommy is extremely loyal and chose his best friend. Who would you choose if it came down to your bff and your significant other? It's safe to say most would choose partnership over friendship.
Tommy and Ghost have had plenty of rocky moments throughout their relationship, but seem to always find their way back due to their intense loyalty to each other. Ghost is more of the brains of the operation, while Tommy is definitely more impulsive. An odd pairing some would say. No matter how big Tommy seems to grow in rank, Ghost is always that big brother figure. More recently, it's become apparent that Tommy resents being seen in Ghosts' shadow.
That has to be tough, right? To always be seen as the lesser, the smaller? Remember Kanye West's song Big Brother? He raps:
My big brother was Big's brother
Used to be Dame and Bigs brother
Who was hip hop brother
Who was No I.D friend
No I.D My mentor
Now let the story begin".
It's no secret that there's a rift West's and Jay's relationship. Kind of ironic that Ye shouts out No ID as his mentor, and No ID is the sole producer of the recently released 4:44 album. While Kanye continues to produce, perform, design Jay is still the bigger - he's married to Beyoncé, he's an almost billionaire, too many businesses & philanthropy initiatives to cite here. But on 'Kill Jay Z' he comes for Kanye. On a record where he supposedly talks about killing his own ego, that same ego powers his poetic jabs at his former right hand man:
"You dropped outta school, you lost your principles
I know people backstab you, I felt bad too
But this 'fuck everybody' attitude ain't natural
But you ain't a Saint, this ain't KumbaYe
But you got hurt because you did cool by 'Ye
You gave him 20 million without blinkin'
He gave you 20 minutes on stage, fuck was he thinkin'?
"Fuck wrong with everybody?" is what you sayin'
But if everybody's crazy, you're the one that's insane."
Dame Dash and Beanie Siegel were both mentioned in Kanye's 'Big Brother' and eventually became casualties in Jay Z's rise to his current status. Will Ye be next? On Big Brother he reveals:
"Ye so shy
Now he won't even step to his idol to say hi
Standing there like a mime
Let the chance pass by
Back of my mind he could change your life
With all these beats I did at least let him hear it
At least you could brag to your friends back at the gig
But he got me out my mama crib
Then he help me get my mama a crib"
Apparently Ye isn't so shy anymore & Hot New Hip Hop reports that Yeezy is cooking up a response. He's quoted as saying, "Yeah man, I was next to Jay for years standing right next to him – why he didn’t give me them jewels he put on the album?" Tommy has been covering things at Truth nightclub while Ghost has been behind bars. Something tells me he won't be happy playing 2nd in command to Ghost now that he's coming home. Tommy is actually headed to Chicago and left his phone at home. He's going rogue again it seems, but some would argue he's earned it. We can try to predict what will be included in Ye's response, but it's much more fun to wait and see. It's amazing what students pick up from their teachers.
