Documentary Looks Into the Realities of Mass Incarceration Through The Eyes of Ex-Felons

A new short documentary takes an intimate, uncut look into the lives of former felons in Philadelphia. Produced by The Roots’ Dick Raw as a way to start a discussion on mass incarceration in the black community, the film is part of his upcoming album, which includes music from Jill Scott, the Philly community and a number of the former felons featured in the documentary.

Dick Raw got the inspiration to do the project from Michelle Alexander’s groundbreaking book The New Jim Crow.  The documentary interviews Philadelphia natives, who were convicted and served extensive time in prison.
